A large concern of mine is some parents' lack of support and patience for their children. Comments such as, "[my child] can't sing" said in front of the student at the time of the lesson is harmful, hurtful, and heart-shattering. I just don't understand how any parent could say something like that to their child! Of course, we all have our opinions, but how in the world could a parent be so negative? As teachers, parents, and musicians, we all need to do our part to support and encourage, not tear down, those trying to learn - especially the little ones...they are so impressionable.
